APRIL 2, 2013
Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts, spoke to the Boston College Social Work community on April 2, 2013, about the politics and policies of inclusion.
"Welcoming new Americans reminds us of our ideals," said Governor Patrick. "The American dream is more than the stuff of legend or folklore. It's real … and it's especially real in the lives of immigrants and those of us who work to make it real, and make it last."
Deval Patrick, the 71st Governor of Massachusetts, rose from Chicago's South Side to attend Milton Academy, Harvard College, and Harvard Law School. Having served as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under President Clinton, he brings a commitment to education, immigrants, veterans, health care, and the environment. His administration is notable for the diversity of his appointments and the inclusivity of his policies. Boston College was honored to have Governor Patrick address the challenges of promoting an inclusive government.
This event was co-hosted by the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work and the Immigrant Integration Lab.
