The Forum on Housing for Vulnerable Young Adults is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Task Force on Youth Aging Out of Foster Care and the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work.
This forum will bring together representatives of agencies with successful housing programs for vulnerable populations from across the Commonwealth to discuss who they serve, what type of housing and services are provided, where their housing is located, when and how it was established, and why their program is working. The 137th Commencement of Boston College will be held on Monday, May 20, 2013. The University Commencement, which is attended by all graduates, is held in Alumni Stadium (rain or shine) and will begin with the Academic Procession at 9:15 a.m. and end after approximately two hours. American Cancer Society Honors GSSW Research Professor with Distinguished Achievement Award

Boston College Graduate School of Social Work research faculty member Barbara J. Berkman was honored recently with the Distinguished Achievement in Cancer Award at the American Cancer Society Volunteer and Staff Leadership Summit in Atlanta. The award recognizes Berkman's tireless research, practice, and advocacy of social work and its importance in caring for cancer patients and their families. She is responsible for advancements in the assessment instruments that oncology social workers use to identify patients and families who are at risk for poor psychosocial adjustment to changes in health status.
Berkman is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare.
