Final year GSSW students from the advanced policy courses participated in the 3rd Annual GSSW Policy Poster Session held in Gasson Hall on May 6th. Students from the Children, Youth, and Families; Health and Mental Health; and Older Adults and Families concentrations showcased policy analyses on posters at the event.
Over 190 students presented posters on diverse policy topics including healthcare, education, mental health, nutrition, violence, and elder care. Students discussed analyses of policy components and implementation issues with other students, faculty, and staff.
"As social workers we need to be active in policy formation and legislative advocacy at both the state and federal level. This class and the poster session was a great way to get used to presenting our data and information in a professional manner."
—Jonathan Lanham, MSW '10
"As a clinical student, part of what I loved about my BCGSSW experience was the emphasis on policy throughout the curriculum, since it is an integral part of the work we do directly with clients. Thanks to the coursework and assignments, and especially the enthusiasm of my professor Stephanie Berzin, I now plan to make advocacy work a huge part of my career going forward."
—Sarah Williamson, MSW '10
