Dr. David T. Takeuchi will join Boston College Graduate School of Social Work this Fall 2013 as Professor, Associate Dean for Research, and Dorothy Book Scholar.
Takeuchi's main research focus has been on how race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status are associated with health, access to care, treatment, quality of care, and outcomes. He was a key architect of the National Latino and Asian American Study, one of the most comprehensive studies of Latinos and Asian Americans ever conducted. Takeuchi served as principal investigator of major grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and private foundations, and he is currently co-investigator of the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute funded by the National Institute of Health and Health Disparities. All new students at Boston College Graduate School of Social Work will participate with faculty, administration, and staff in an afternoon of presentations and discussions exploring the complexity of social work practice in a diverse world.
In addition to brief presentations by GSSW faculty and staff, there will be presentations by Susan B. Parker, former Director of Policy and Research, Office of Disability Employment Policy, U.S. Department of Labor, and by the staff, students, and parents from the Cotting School in Lexington.
Lunch will be served.
