Pinderhughes Diversity Lecture with Mary Catherine Bateson: "On the Work of Societal Healing"

Mary Catherine Bateson is a writer and cultural anthropologist. Bateson's books include With a Daughter's Eye: A Memoir of Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson and the best-selling Composing a Life. Her most recent book, Composing a Further Life: The Age of Active Wisdom, focuses on the contributions of engaged older adults and was written to raise consciousness of the changing life cycle and to encourage older adults to claim a voice for the future.  More about the Pinderhughes Diversity Lecture »

Boston College students, alumni, faculty, staff, field agencies, and advisors are invited to attend an afternoon conference, "Health Care Reform: From Policy to Practice," to examine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the challenges and opportunities for expanding the roles and influence of social workers. This event brings together leaders and social work practitioners to provide insight into the future landscape for social workers.

Keynote speaker Charles D. Baker, Jr., Candidate for Governor of Massachusetts and former Chief Executive Officer, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. As health care reform continues to unfold across the U.S., Boston College Graduate School of Social Work is exploring the context of the reform and its impact on the social work profession. Our school has invited key thought-leaders on health care to speak in a series of presentations, which will culminate in a "Health Care Reform: From Policy to Practice" forum on February 24, 2014. For the second discussion in this series, Nancy Lane, Chief Executive Officer of Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership and President of Mass Market, Value Options, Inc., will speak on what social workers can do to improve health care.  More about Health Reform »

Students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to attend a morning conference to explore the intersections of diversity and social work practice and to honor this year's recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Awards. This event brings the entire Boston College Graduate School of Social Work community together at the start of the second semester to deepen our respect for the complex diversity of the people and communities we are privileged to serve and to strengthen our practice skills.

In academic year 2013-2014, the GSSW community is focusing on Justice, Diversity, and Aging.
