Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes, Ph.D. directs the Sloan Center on Aging & Work at Boston College. She is a Professor in the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW), and has appointments at the Boston College Carroll School of Management and the Business School at Middlesex University in London.
Focusing on social justice at the workplace, she has devoted her career to examining factors that affect the employment experiences of vulnerable populations. For the past ten years, she has provided leadership to studies that offer insights about innovative practices that create positive employment opportunities for older adults.
Dr. Pitt-Catsouphes is currently the co-principal investigator for the field experiment, The Time and Place Management Study, which is examining the outcomes of an intervention offering flexible work options to work units at a large health care organization. She was the co-principal investigator for the 2006 National Study of Business Strategy and Workforce Development, the 2007-2008 Age & Generations Study, the 2009 Talent Management Study, and the 2010 Generations of Talent Study, an investigation which gathered data from over 11,000 employees working in eleven different countries.
Collaborating with GSSW faculty member Dr. Berzin, Dr. Pitt-Catsouphes co-directs the Center for Social Innovation. She has been the co-principal investigator for two recent studies, Leading the Way: Social Innovation in Massachusetts, and The Purpose Prize Study. Dr. Pitt-Catsouphes founded the Social Innovation Lab which supports the efforts of organizations in the social sector interested in engaging in social innovation.
Dr. Pitt-Catsouphes was invited to the 2006 White House Conference on Aging as an issue expert and participated in the 2010 White House Forum on Workplace Flexibility. She was a recipient of the 2007 Work-Life Legacy Award. Dr. Pitt-Catsouphes has served on several boards and advisory committees, including the advisory committee for Workplace Flexibility 2010, the Strategy Board for the Association of Work/Life Professionals at the World of Work, the Purdue Center for Families, and the Tapping Mature Talent project.
Dr. Pitt-Catsouphes’ articles have been published in a number of scholarly and practitioner journals. She was a founding co-editor for the international journal, Community, Work and Family and co-edited a special issue of Generations (2007) that focused on aging and work. Her publications include The Work-Family Handbook: Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives and Approaches to Research, published by Erlbaum Publishers (2006) which she edited with colleagues. She received her BA from Tufts University, MSP from Boston College, and PhD from Boston University.
