Diversity & Justice Initiatives

The Diversity Committee of Boston College Graduate School of Social Work is dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for all students, faculty, and staff. Diversity awareness is a core value that prepares our students for effective and culturally-sensitive practices when working with diverse populations. Human needs, rights, issues, and solutions are intertwined with culture.

To better prepare students to work with a diverse population, Boston College Graduate School of Social Work established a Latino Leadership Initiative within the MSW program. The initiative bolsters students' cultural and linguistic competencies to work with Latino communities in the U.S. and abroad. Selected courses are taught in Spanish and aim to familiarize students with the realities of Latino life in the U.S. and other countries.

Since 2006, the GSSW has engaged in a continuous process of planning, implementing, and evaluating initiatives aimed at building a community that welcomes and supports persons with diverse identities.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in our diversity initiative events:

  • Speaker series
  • Trainings
  • Retreats
  • Discussion groups

Associate Professor Paul Kline served as founding chair from 2007 thru 2013.
