Summer Readings
The following summer readings should be used as new lenses for the way you see the world. They discuss big ideas in the history of economic development and globalization, for example. Altogether, you should read four chapters of Landes, three in Friedman, and the Sen article (see links below to access the readings). Later this summer, incoming students will be assigned a short paper focused on these readings. The assignment will be emailed to students by July 20th and due on August 8th.
David Landes, The Wealth and Poverty of Nations
Thomas Friedman, The Lexus and the Olive Tree
Amartya Sen, “How to Judge Globalism”
