What’s the deal with the Marketing Job Search?
The job search for Marketing students differs vastly from that of students interested in finance and accounting firms. Finance and accounting firms hire entry level in such large numbers that they actively recruit a steady stream of undergraduates. They also recruit early which is not the case with marketing firms. Often students find their marketing positions just before or shortly after graduation. There are wonderful opportunities in marketing but many of those opportunities need to be sought out by you through internships and networking.
In addition, the hiring for full-time positions occurs on an as-needed basis so they do not participate in campus recruiting. Some of the large consumer product companies--P&G, J&J, Coca-Cola, Nike, etc--do not recruit at Boston College for undergraduates. This of course does not mean they will not hire BC grads and interns but you will need to seek them out and try to network with any BC Alumni you can find there.
