Coporate Governance, the Economy, and the Global Business Climate

Following an introduction by Edward Johnson, the Chairman & CEO of Fidelity, GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt addressed a Who's Who at The Chief Executives' Club of Boston. Immelt outlined steps that companies should take to boost investor confidence, such as hiring more outside directors and building a team culture among employees. He also laid out a management philosophy emphasizing teamwork and values and said that companies too often have promoted "star systems" that were easily corrupted or misused by individuals. Great companies "have great people, great systems, and great cultures," Immelt said. "The culture always supersedes any individual."
