The Lynch Leadership Academy hosted author and educator Paul Bambrick-Santoyo on Thursday, September 27, as part of a day-long seminar for this year’s class of fellows in Boston College’s unique leadership development program that brings together principals from district, Catholic and charter schools.
Bambrick-Santoyo is the author of Driven by Data: A Practical Guide to Improve Instruction and Leverage Leadership: A Practical Guide to Building Exceptional Schools. In addition, he is the managing director of Uncommon Schools Newark, which is composed of seven North Star Academy schools that have garnered recognition for marked gains in student achievement.
Lynch Leadership Academy Director Thaly Germain said Bambrick-Santoyo’s session would pay immediate dividends for the principals in the academy program.
“Paul's involvement with LLA is significant because of his firm belief in practice and application,” said Germain. “Our belief at LLA is that each course should provide participants opportunities to practice aspects of leadership and to receive critical feedback that will improve leader practice. We think it’s important to have leaders like Paul facilitate our monthly workshops.”
In addition to the current group of LLA fellows, Germain invited educators from New York State, leaders from several charter schools including MATCH and KIPP public charter schools and Mary Grassa O’Neill, superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Boston.
“We want to have a profound impact on the education landscape and to expand our influence beyond our core group of fellows,” said Germain. “We see this session as an opportunity to engage multiple partners and as a way by which we will leverage those partnerships to impact education policy in future years. We think building relationships with leaders from and outside of Boston will be important as we look to transform the national education landscape.”
