Second year Carroll School MBA student Rachel Cafarella can't believe her luck.  Not only did she secure a summer internship with Hasbro, the leading toy, game and branded play company, her timing was superb. This summer, the third TRANSFORMERS movie came out.

As part of the global brand management team for the TRANSFORMERS brand, Cafarella worked on multiple projects, including: Helping the company further develop their video and Facebook presence; helping market existing and upcoming product lines; establishing the analytics for what the company will sell next year and determining how to best communicate the Hasbro brands globally.  "Few people realize how much of the TRANSFORMERS toys and games sales take place outside of the U.S.,” she says.  "This is exciting."

Working with a team

Additionally, Cafarella enjoyed the autonomy she was given and working on a group project with Hasbro’s nine other summer MBA interns.  This entailed creating strategy and presenting these ideas to Hasbro's executives. The experience was incredible, she says, and the connections she made were unbeatable.

Cafarella hopes a job will result with Hasbro.  In her exit interview with management she expressed her interest in working there upon graduating next year. “Most companies talk about going global, but Hasbro is proactively trying to achieve this.  It would be an honor working for them.”

What we can learn from Cafarella’s Internship:

•    Cafarella began her internship search early, within her first semester
•    She attended the Hasbro information session hosted by the Carroll School and followed up
•    Cafarella chose to intern with a company well connected with the Carroll School and Boston College
•    Six Carroll School alumni were among the Hasbro representatives who spoke to Carroll School students at the information session
