Teaching at the Carroll School of Management
Teaching at the Carroll School is a unique blend of cutting-edge faculty scholarship and research, high-touch, collaborative learning between professors and students, and the most sophisticated classroom, cross-learning and simulation technologies, that together help to create the unique learning environment at the Carroll School.
The equal emphasis on research and teaching enables the faculty to simultaneously build and expand upon their own scholarship, continue to publish, lecture, consult, and contribute to contemporary business theory on a worldwide basis, while also seamlessly integrating their latest research into the classroom. Faculty research and scholarship however is not one-sided. The open, highly participatory environment at the Carroll School provides opportunities for students, from the undergraduate to PhD-level, to collaborate and form relationships with professors on research projects, providing students with limitless opportunities to learn about contemporary business practices and theories both inside and outside the classroom.
A look inside the classroom will find faculty engaged in the latest techniques and practices in contemporary business education. Faculty select the right mixture of case study, lecture, guest speakers, and hands-on learning for each subject, to enable students to get the most out of each class. They employ multimedia presentations and lectures; case analysis and research project collaboration between partner business schools; real-time video lecture feeds with business schools across the globe; and online class discussion boards on BC’s WebCT system. Individual disciplines also use the latest software and simulation technologies that enable students to apply principles they've learned across disciplines and business environments to a simulated business situation, such as a marketing scenario game that challenges students to develop and market new products while competing within the class.
We have over 100 scholars, researchers, and teachers who consistently contribute to leading management journals and publications in every discipline of business. Each faculty member, from department chairpersons to non-tenured faculty, is dedicated to skillfully educating both undergraduate and graduate students in addition to pursuing their research initiatives.
Faculty are also regularly called upon to comment on current business topics in national media; to contribute to discussions at the highest levels of government; and to consult for some of the largest companies and nonprofit organizations in the world today.
