Sugata Roychowdhury, PhD

Sugata Roychowdhury is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Carroll School of Management of Boston College. He joins Boston College after spending seven years at the Sloan School of Management at MIT, where he served most recently as Associate Professor. At MIT, he was awarded the Theodore T. Miller (1922) Career Development Chair for research and was a multiple recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award. He received his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Rochester and his MBA from International Management Institute, New Delhi. Prior to pursuing a PhD, he worked as a Rating Analyst for Credit Analysis and Research Limited in India.
In his research, Professor Roychowdhury primarily focuses on the influence of managers’ incentives on their reporting and disclosure choices. His current research examines the interaction between voluntary and mandatory disclosures, the implications of financial market developments and regulatory guidelines for managers’ reporting choices, as well as the real consequences of these choices. His work has been published in the leading academic journals, including Journal of Accounting & Economics and Journal of Accounting Research. He serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Accounting & Economics.
