Gerald Kane

Gerald C. (Jerry) Kane is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.  His research interests involve the role of information systems in social networks and the use of social media (e.g. blogs, wikis) for managing knowledge within and between organizations, with a particular focus on application and use within the healthcare industry.

His published research has appeared in Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Organization Science, and Harvard Business Review.  He was awarded runner-up for Best Published Paper in 2008 by Information Systems Research and “Best Paper” at the 2008 Academy of Management Annual Meeting (OCIS Division). Dr. Kane’s innovative teaching practices using Wikis have been featured in Chronicle of Higher Education, Computerworld, eWeek, and Campus Technology. He is also an Associate Editor for MIS Quarterly.

Professor Kane has recently been granted a CAREER award, which is the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations. 

He was the first Ph.D. graduate from Goizueta Business School of Emory University with a degree in Information Systems, a M.B.A. in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University, and a M.Div. from Emory University. Prior to joining the faculty at Boston College, Kane served as an ordained clergy in the United Methodist Church.
