From fellowships to coursework in “neighboring” departments: suggestions for making the most of a psychology major.

Concentration in Clinical Psychology
The Clinical Concentration is designed for Psychology majors with a particular interest in careers in clinical or couseling psychology or clinical social work. This concentration is open only to Psychology B.A. majors.

Fellowships
Advice on locating a fellowship to fund your study in the U.S. or abroad.

Fulbright Grants
Students should consider applying for a Fulbright grant, which supports a year of independent study (or English-language teaching) in the year after graduation. The application deadline is October 1 of your senior year.

Independent Study
This course offers students the opportunity to study a topic of personal interest, working independently under the supervision of a faculty member in the Psychology Department.

Neuroscience Courses for Premedical Students
Psychology courses that may be reported as part of your Neuroscience and Statistics GPA.

Peter Gray Award
The Peter Gray award is given to a Psychology major who has manifested unusual intellectual curiosity, independence, and creativity in his or her studies.

Psychology Honors Program
Not the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program, but a challenging course of study for Psychology majors.

Scholar of the College (external link)
The Scholar of the College award is a designation awarded at Commencement to exceptional students who have excelled academically in their undergraduate studies and who have done substantial, independent work of the highest quality for a significant part of their senior year under the supervision of faculty scholars.

Seminars
Some students may want to take seminar courses at the 500 or 600 level.

Senior Thesis
Students may choose to write a thesis paper during the senior year.

Social Work Program
The School of Social Work and the Psychology Department offer a joint five-year Master's Degree program for students who have decided upon a career in social work. This program is open only to Psychology B.A. majors.

Undergraduate Travel
The Dean's Office provides funding toward undergraduate travel for conference presentations.
