Tufts School of Medicine Early Assurance Program

health professions graduate studies

Under an agreement with Tufts University School of Medicine (Boston), sophomores may apply for early acceptance to Tufts Medical School. Students who are accepted would remain at Boston College to complete their junior and senior years, with an invitation in hand to attend Tufts Med after graduating from BC. Under this program, premedical students can more easily pursue a more diversified curriculum during their final two years at BC without the pressures normally associated with applying to medical school.

This special program is available only to sophomores who have completed two semesters of Biology with lab, two semesters of General Chemistry with lab, and one semester of Organic Chemistry with lab. Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA, both overall and in the sciences, of at least 3.5. Students are encouraged to have acquired some experience in a health care setting (click here for some suggestions). At the time of application (sophomore year), the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is not required.

In the past, applications have been due in early February of the sophomore year, and those students whom Tufts Med wishes to further consider for this program are generally invited to interview at Tufts in March/April. Accepted students are notified during the summer after the sophomore year.

Applicants who are accepted do not need to make a commitment to Tufts until summer or early fall of their senior year. Those students accepted to this special program who do plan to attend Tufts are not required to take the MCAT. Accepted students are also expected to maintain comparable grades and to complete Organic Chemistry II with lab, as well as one year of Physics with labs, before enrolling.
