Placement of Graduates
department of political science
The department makes vigorous efforts to find suitable positions for its graduate students, especially for graduates of its doctoral program. Happily, we have been quite successful. Ph.D. students from the department have received tenured or tenure-track jobs at the University of Notre Dame, Emory University, Michigan State University, Marquette University, the University of Dallas, Kenyon College, St. John's College (both the Sante Fe and Annapolis campuses), College of the Holy Cross, the University of Texas--Austin, and the University of Houston, among others. Students have also received post-doctoral fellowships and other positions at Harvard University, Duke University, the University of Virginia, the University of Richmond, Emory University, the University of Hong Kong, and the University of London.
Contact
The placement program is directed by Professor Robert C. Bartlett. A key component is an annual employment seminar in which young faculty discuss their own searches and distribute written suggestions and hints. The director and other faculty also review a student's résumé and other documents involved in job applications. And the faculty who have worked most closely with a student have responsibility for writing and calling on his or her behalf.
