The Donald Carlisle Award for Excellence in Political Science
Amanda Rothschild won the award on the basis of her overall performance in the major, and on the quality of her Honors Thesis/Scholar of the College Project, titled "Out of the Nuremberg Nightmare: The Genocide Convention’s Failure and the Efficacy of the Responsibility to Protect." Amanda will be entering the doctoral program in Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Fall.
The Frank J. Bailey Award for Excellence
The Islamic Civilization and Society Program awarded Political Science Honors student Alex Guittard, a double major in ICS and Political Science, The Frank J. Bailey Award for Excellence. Alex's ICS Thesis is titled "Tribe-State Relations in Afghanistan." After graduation, Alex will be commissioned an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. He will serve in a Military Intelligence unit in Washington while pursing a career in the foreign service, with hopes to be overseas as soon as possible, in either a diplomatic or military post.

Narintohn Luangrath, From Sud-Quest to Le Parisien. To support research on the portrayal of the burqa in French print media. Advisor: Associate Professor Kenji Hayao.
Binh Nguyen, East Asian Security. To support intensive language study in Beijing and research on the effect of China-Vietnam disputes on China’s security. Advisor: Professor Robert Ross.
Kelsey Swift, The Refugee Experience of Displaced Iraqis. To support intensive language study and research on refugee services in Jordan. Advisor: Adjunct Associate Professor Kathleeen Bailey.
