Prof. Maksym Fedorchuk named 2014 Sloan Fellow
Congratulations to Boston College Assistant Prof. of Mathematics Maksym Fedorchuk, who has been awarded a prestigious Sloan Research Fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Prof. Dawei Chen awarded NSF Career Award
Assistant Prof. of Math Dawei Chen has been awarded a 5-year, $429,359, NSF Career Award, the NSF's most prestigious award in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars. Prof. Chen joins Prof. Eli Grigsby as the second math faculty member to receive a CAREER award in the past two years. Congratulations, Dawei!
In Memorium: Paul Sally Jr.; 1933-2013
Dr. Paul Sally Jr. '54, MA '56, renowned mathematician and educator, died Dec. 30, 2013. Paul was a great friend and supporter of the Boston College Math Department. Among many initiatives, he endowed the Sally Award, which is given to a graduating senior who has shown true academic distinction in a demanding program in Mathematics at Boston College. An article on Dr. Sally appeared in the Spring 2010 issue of Boston College Magazine, and an obituary appeared in the UChicagoNews.
