Research Interests:

I am currently working on a thesis which explores the energy policies of the British governments during the oil crises of the 1960s and 1970s. I am paying particular attention to the close relationship maintained between members of the civil service and executives of Britain's two leading oil companies, Shell and British Petroleum. The question of who was directing whom will lie at the heart of my project. More generally, my other interests include the formation of the postwar political order in Europe and the impact of energy concerns on domestic and foreign policy in the NATO alliance nations during the Cold War.
