Sammy Chong will be serving as a Lecturer/Teaching Assistant this academic year. He uses his experience in painting on canvas as a starting point for creating multi-layered installations. With a background in theology and philosophy, Sammy’s studio practice builds on the notion of individual identity and transcendental meaning in contemporary society. His recent body of work, “So Close/So Distant”, portrays the challenges of engagement, maintaining being, and building relationships in modern societies. Sammy has also explored the notion of the labyrinth as a metaphor of finding sense in struggle. In the past, he has taught courses in the History of Christian Art, and Theology and Film, at Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador.
