environmental studies program

Snyder-Noah

Welcome to the Environmental Studies Program – where environmental awareness, research, and stewardship unite our scholarship. Our goal is to provide BC students with opportunities to study environmental systems and global sustainability from perspectives in the social and natural sciences, arts and humanities. We also foster a campus-wide dialog about environmental issues by sponsoring conferences, lectures and other events.

We are an interdisciplinary program that offers a minor in the College of Arts and Sciences that involves students and faculty from throughout the university. The Minor in Environmental Studies is an excellent complement to any major program. Faculty from many departments and schools, including Geology and Geophysics, Sociology, Biology, English, Political Science, Economics and the Law School contribute to the environmental curriculum.

I was appointed director of the program in the summer of 2010, taking over from Dr. Eric Strauss. During the 2010-2011 academic year you can expect updates to the program and this website, as we develop new opportunities, courses and curricula.

I hope that you will decide to discover more about the Environmental Studies Program - either as a student interested in the Minor or as a faculty member with an interest in environmental teaching or research.
