New film: Metropolitan Andrej / Владика Андрей.
(Oles’ Jančuk). In Ukrainian with English subtitles.
This movie features the heroic life of Metropolitan Andrej Šeptyckyj, Archbishop of Lviv (Western Ukraine) from 1901 to 1944. During World War II he defied Hitler and the Nazis and personally sheltered scores of Jewish refugees in his archiepiscopal palace. For his actions the
Veliko Turnovo, one of the most picturesque Bulgaria towns, stands in tiers above the Yantra River, which meanders through the elevations of Turnovo and the three hills - Tsarevets, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora.
State of Israel honored him posthumously as "righteous among the nations". Although a staunch anti-Communist, the Soviet government nonetheless accorded him a state funeral upon his death.
