Kevin Kersten, S.J. has a Ph.D. in International Communication from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (1979). In addition, he holds degrees in Theology (STM) from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley (1973); Television Production and Aesthetics (MA) from San Francisco State University (1974); and English Literature (MA) from St. Louis University (1966).

He served three years as Assistant Secretary General of Unda, the International Catholic Association for Radio and Television (from 1974), and eight years as Executive Secretary of JESCOMEA, the Jesuit Secretariat for Communications and the Media Apostolate, East Asia (from 1981).

For 15 years he taught at the Jesuit Sogang University in Seoul, Korea. While Director of Sogang's Communication Center (1981-1989), he produced over 50 video documentaries on themes related to faith and justice.

In 1990, he left Korea for special assignment from Jesuit Superior General Father Peter Hans Kolvenbach to assess the Centre for the Study of Communication and Culture (CSCC), and then to relocate it from London, where it was established as an international Jesuit work, to Saint Louis University, where it continues as the hub of a global network for collaboration among communication scholars, media practitioners, and Church leadership.

As CSCC Director, he published the academic quarterly Communication Research Trends and coordinated two book series, Communication and Human Values (Sage), and Communication, Culture, and Theology (Sheed & Ward).
