Biology Professor Ken Williams' lab discovery of a molecule that serves as a marker for HIV activity has been recognized as among the top biological and medical research projects in the world, according to the research library service the Faculty of 1000. More
Biology Professor Thomas Chiles has been named the Dr. Michael E. and Dr. Salvatore A. DeLuca Professor of Biology, the university announced today. More
Biology Professor Michelle Meyer has been named a recipient of the Sloan Research Fellowships for 2012. Awarded annually since 1955, the fellowships are given to early-career scientists and scholars whose achievements and potential identify them as rising stars, the next generation of scientific leaders. More
Biology Professors Clare O'Connor and Laura Hake have been awarded a grant for 175K from the National Science Foundation for support of their project entitled, "Pathways over Time: A Research Project for the Introductory Biology Laboratory". More
Biology Professors Marc-Jan Gubbels and Gabor Marth combine genome sequencing and laboratory testing to isolate a protein that plays a crucial role in parasites that spread the deadly diseases taoxoplasmosis and malaria. Isolating the protein could lead to therapies that block its function. More
Professor of Biology, Marc A.T. Muskavitch is a co-author of a research report in Nature (December 2011) More
Professor Hugh Cam was recently awarded a grant from the March of Dimes Foundation - The project entitled "Meiotic stress–induced epigenetic perturbations" will run for 2 years. Many birth defects and congenital conditions are associated with aneuploidy, the inheritance of unequal numbers of chromosomes as a result of chromosome missegregation during meiosis. One of the major goals of this study is to explore potential links between the effects of stress on cells undergoing meiosis and the causes of meiotic aneuploidy.
Professor Peter Clote is giving an invited 3 hour tutorial on RNA in a Systems Biology workshop held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Jan 24-28, 2011, sponsored by MITACS (Canadian Mathematical Research Institution). More
BC science graduate students gathered together for prospective interdisciplinary collaborative projects. More
Professor Thomas Seyfried has been nominated for President of the American Society for Neurochemistry.
Professor Jeffrey Chuang was recently featured in an article from Genome Technology.
Boston College DeLuca Professor of Biology Marc Muskavitch and an international team of researchers have developed the first high-res microarray for a vector mosquito, which provided 400,000 genetic markers that can offer vital insights into the insect that transmits malaria.
