Freedom House is a community based nonprofit organization with a mission "to promote educational excellence, economic self-sufficiency to alleviate poverty and social justice for Boston’s most distressed urban neighborhoods through targeted educational development, increased civic and political engagement and progressive cultural advocacy."

"The mission of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts is to deliver services and programs that aim to increase the economic self-reliance of African Americans and other people of color throughout our service area and to advocate for the core initiative and civil rights issues that critically affect their lives."

This is New England's largest African American history museum, with two main locations - one in Boston and one in Nantucket.

This site, administered by the National Park Service, contains the largest area of pre-Civil War black owned structures in the United States.
