Frequently Asked Questions
Are you open to the public?
Yes, we are. We are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., although during the summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day) we close at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays. Both regular tours and self-guided tours are available; please see "Tour Weston Observatory" for details.
Do you hold lectures open to the public?
Yes, please check here to see the schedule of lectures planned at the Observatory.
Do you record earthquakes from all over the world or just from New England?
We have instruments in the World-Wide Standardized Seismorgaph Network (WWSSN) and in the New England Seismic Network (NESN), so we do record earthquakes from all over the earth.
Do you have public viewing times on your telescopes?
No, we are a geophysical observatory, not an astronomical observatory. There aren't any telescopes here.
