7 in 10 Older Adults Plan to Work in Retirement

Among workers ages 45-74, "more than 7 in 10 say they plan to work in retirement; this includes 29% who will work part-time for enjoyment and 23% who will work part-time for income". Additionally, 13% say they plan to work for themselves or start their own business while 5% plan to work full-time in a new career. About one quarter (26%) do not plan to work for pay at all, according to the AARP 2013 work and career study.
