In this lecture, Dr. Jackson Katz uses clips from his film,Tough Guise, to illustrate how mainstream media images - from sports, television, Hollywood film, and music video - help to promote violent masculinity as a cultural norm. The intent of this lecture is to provide students, teachers, and anyone else with conceptual and practical tools for reading media images critically - especially those connected with masculinity and violence.). A Panel Discussion - Women for Others, Leaders for the Church - will be held Apri. 26, 5:30 p.m. in the Heights Room of Corcoran Commons. The moderator will be Patricia De Leeuw, vice provost for faculties, Office of the Provost. She will be joined by several Boston College alumnae panelists. The event is sponsored by The C21 Center, Women's Resource Center and the BC Alumni Association.
"Seeing the Man: Art from Behind Bars" thru April 30

This exhibition, featuring artwork created by men imprisoned in American jails and penitentiaries, is a joint effort between the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry Prison Ministry Initiative and Do-Right Ministries, a non-profit organization that raises awareness about the American justice system and promotes healing through art. Presented during Lent 2012, a Christian penitential season that encourages reflection on social justice issues such as the American prison system, the exhibit is co-sponsored by the School of Theology and Ministry's Prison Ministry Initiative, Faith and Justice Committee (two student-led initiatives focused on education and social justice), and the Boston College University Libraries. Atrium Gallery, Theology and Ministry Library, Brighton Campus, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Apr. 30.
