Beckman Scholarship

university fellowships committee

Application by invitation only.

The Beckman Scholarships were established by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation to support outstanding undergraduate students in chemistry and biological sciences research at select universities throughout the United States. Beckman Scholars receive an award of up to $17,600 to engage in two summers of full-time research (ten weeks) and one academic year of part-time research (ten hours per week), in collaboration with a Boston College faculty member in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry. In addition, scholars are invited to attend the Beckman Scholars Annual Research Symposium, along with their faculty mentors, as guests of the foundation.

Boston College science students who have strong academic credentials and who participate in one of the University's honors programs will be invited to apply to the Selection Committee, led by the Biology and Chemistry chairs and including faculty from both departments. The application process will include evaluation of written applications as well as oral interviews with the Beckman Selection Committee.

Application for the Beckman Scholarship is by invitation only, and is administered entirely by the Boston College Biology and Chemistry departments. Students interested in the qualifications for the Beckman Scholarships are urged to talk with the Boston College Beckman Campus Coordinator no later than the beginning of their Sophomore year.
