Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers of Color

university fellowships committee

The Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers of Color seeks to expand the pool of outstanding candidates who will teach in urban and rural schools, by recruiting exceptionally able Arts & Sciences majors for whom teaching is a new career interest.

Eligible applicants are AHANA undergraduates in their senior year. The Fellowships support enrollment in a graduate program that leads to a Master's degree and initial certification in the subject the recipient will teach. Applicants must be nominated by Boston College in order to be eligible. Recipients of the Fellowship agree to teach for at least three years in an urban or rural school district after completing their graduate studies.

The Fellowships provide:

  • a $30,000 stipend to apply toward the cost of a Master's degree
  • preparation in a high-need public school
  • guidance toward teaching certification
  • support and mentoring throughout the three-year teaching commitment
  • lifelong membership in a national network of Woodrow Wilson Fellows

To be eligible, an applicant should:

  • be a person of color (African American/Black, Asian, Hispanic, Latino(a), Native American);
  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien;
  • be a college senior who will receive a bachelor's degree by June 30th of the senior year;
  • have substantial background in the arts and sciences and high academic performance with a cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale;
  • not currently be in a teacher preparation program which leads to initial teacher certification.

Applications from Boston College students are accepted only through nomination by the University Fellowships Committee. Only two candidates can be nominated by Boston College each year. To be competitive, interested students should contact the Boston College Campus Coordinator for the Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fellowships well in advance of the deadline, to begin preparing their applications.

If you would like additional information about the scholarship and the application process before talking with the Campus Coordinator, consult the Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fellowship web site.
