Emergency Evacuation

To augment Student, Faculty and Administrative Health coverage while abroad and due to recent events, both with regard to Natural Disaster and Political issues arising throughout the world, Boston College has partnered with Axis Global / Europ Assistance which provides Political and Natural Disaster Evacuation Coverage.

Europ Assistance International's Program Provides the Following to Boston College

  • Up to $25,000 per individual and $500,000 per incident for political evacuation and transportation back home.
  • Up to $25,000 per individual and $500,000 per incident for natural disaster evacuation and transportation back home.
  • Access to Europ Assistance 24/7 Global Response Center, providing continuous monitoring of political and security activity around the world.
  • Emergency Message Relay provides updates to family around the clock until you arrive home.

The Details

  Political Evacuation:

  • Evacuation to the nearest safe haven if the United States government or the host country‚Äôs government declares that US Citizens should leave the area of political unrest/instability.
  • After initial evacuation to the nearest safe haven, Europ Assistance will transport you back to your permanent primary residence, or Boston College or back to the host country if has been declared safe to return and at your discretion.
  • Europ Assistance will also pay for the cost of food, lodging and if necessary physical protection during transport to the nearest safe haven.

  Natural Disaster Evacuation:

  • Evacuation to the nearest safe haven if your host city/country is made uninhabitable due to a natural disaster.
  • After initial evacuation to the nearest safe haven Europ Assistance will transport you back to your permanent primary residence, or Boston College or back to the host country if it has been declared safe to return and at your discretion.
  • Europ Assistance will also pay for the cost of food, lodging and if necessary physical protection during transport to the nearest safe haven.

 Legal Referral/Bail Bond:

  • Legal referrals are provided upon request.
  • In case of imprisonment Europe Assistance will:
    • Notify the respective embassy or consulate
    • Advance bail funds up to $5,000 USD upon the receipt of a guarantee of repayment.  A credit card guarantee must be obtained from student or family
    • All expenses are the student's responsibility

The involved person, their family member or the College representative (depends on the circumstances and who is able to make the call) to contact Europ Assistance (EA) by calling the toll-free number or collect number as soon as possible.  Europ Assistance will set-up a case number and provide instuctions from that point forward.

What to Do if You Experience Any of the Above

  • Immediately seek shelter in the safest location possible.
  • Once  at  a safe location, contact Europ Assistance for assistance toll-free at 1-888-870-2497 or collect at 609-375-9190 or via email at AXIS.travel@europassistance-usa.com and identify yourself as a member of the Boston College Community.
  • Europ Assistance will take all appropriate actions to assist you in getting to the nearest safe haven and all the way back home.

Lastly, please note that Axis Global / Europ Assistance will not reimburse for services provided, rather Axis Global / Europ Assistance must be contacted first and arrange for evacuation services for the cost to be covered.
