Biggest loser Revamped!

Are you looking to create some life-long habits to help you reach a healthy weight? Our Biggest Loser Revamped! small group training program is for participants who are overweight with a BMI greater than or equal to 27, who exhibit the willpower to work steadily toward his or her weight loss goals through healthy practices. There are no fads here, just good old fashioned exercise, general nutrition counseling, and tremendous support to keep you motivated! The class meets four times per week in a small group setting. Nutrition resources on campus as well as helpful tools will be provided. Participants who are faculty or staff members are also encouraged to sign-up for Weight Watchers. The overall winner with the greatest percentage of body weight lost will receive one free small group class registration during the first session of the following semester. A brief meeting with the Graduate Assistant of Fitness is required for interested participants. See the details below. Eligibility criteria must be met in order to be eligible to participate. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

1.    Must have a BMI greater than or equal to 27. Check your BMI at the following link by entering your height and weight: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/BMI/bmicalc.htm

2.    If BMI is less than 27, but at least 25, you must have a body-fat percentage greater than 30% for females, and 25% for males.

4.    The Graduate Assistant of Fitness will review your application and schedule a brief 10-minute meeting with you. If approved for the program, you will then need to get a medical waiver signed by your primary physician before you can participate.

Brighton Yoga
This faculty and staff class will be held in the Brighton Campus Dance Studio. A 200-hour registered yoga teacher will lead participants through yoga postures, meditation and breathing techniques to help achieve balance between the mind and body. The class will focus on alignment, as well as improving flexibility, strength, concentration, and relaxation. All levels are welcome. This is not a drop-in class, but one free trial is available upon request per year. To request a free trial, contact Member Services.

Location: Brighton Dance Studio

 

Brighton Mat Pilates
This faculty and staff class will be held in the Brighton Campus Dance Studio. A Pilates mat instructor will guide participants through classes centered on the floor work developed by Joseph H. Pilates. Using the body’s own resistance, a well thought out series of movements will be performed to improve circulation, breathing, posture, and body awareness. This is not a drop-in class, but one free trial is available upon request per year. To request a free trial, contact Member Services.

Location: Brighton Dance Studio

 

Couch To 5k – only offered 2nd session

Train to run a 5K! No running experience is required here! Let a trainer who has completed many road races, including a marathon, guide and motivate you with workouts specifically geared toward preparing for a 5K road race. Workouts will typically be led around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir and on rainy days inside on the treadmills.

Faculty Staff Yoga

You have probably heard or read about Yoga and its many benefits. Come and see for yourself how beneficial a yoga practice can be. Yoga is an excellent way to increase strength and flexibility while improving mind and body wellness. This is a beginner level class. You will want to wear loose fitting comfortable clothes. Casual work clothes will be fine. Please bring a towel or yoga mat.

Participant Level: Must be Faculty/ Staff

Fit Over 40 – Level 1

Fit over 40 – Level 1 is an exercise program designed to meet the needs of adults over 40 who want a beginner workout. Exercise is important for your overall mental and physical health and is an essential part of living a healthy lifestyle! This well-rounded program includes a combination of weight training, cardiovascular, neuromuscular (balance/coordination), and flexibility exercises, geared to help you keep in shape all semester long!

Participant Fitness Level: Level 1

Fit Over 40 – Level 2

Fit over 40 – Level 2 is meant for participants who completed Fit Over 40 – Level 1 at least once and are ready to kick up the intensity! This personalized exercise program is designed to meet the needs of adults over 40 who want an intermediate workout. Building upon Fit Over 40 – Level 1, Level 2 will pick up the pace and also focus on more challenging exercises, while maintaining the combination of weight training, cardiovascular, neuromuscular (balance/coordination), and flexibility exercises, geared to help you keep in shape all semester long!

Freshmen Fit at the Hut

Workout with your peers on the Newton campus in the Freshmen Fit program! This total-body workout is led by an experienced trainer who is also a BC student. You’ll have an awesome workout and will also be provided with tips to keep you fit and fresh your first year!

Participant Fitness Level: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3

Get Fit Circuit Training – Level 1

Form a stronger, more consistent, exercise regimen with Get Fit Circuit Training – Level 1! The trainer will deliver an appropriate beginner full-body, circuit-training workout regimen to help you reach your goals. Workouts will be held on the new Synergy 360, and in other fitness areas utilizing a variety of equipment. Jumping and explosive movements are limited in this class to keep Level 1 participants safe.

Get Fit Circuit Training – Level 2

Jumping and explosive movements will be incorporated in the workout, which is created for more advanced participants.

Graduate Student Yoga

Iron Eagle Training

Train for BC’s Iron Eagle! Improve your overall fitness, while specifically focusing on strength and conditioning. The designed course will be challenging, but fun! There will be two parts to this competition: a strength medley and an endurance obstacle course. Get ready for it! A little training will go a long way.

Participant Fitness Level: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3

Kettlebells 101

Have you ever wanted to learn how to safely and effectively use kettlebells? As you learn to swing, throw and catch your way to a higher level of fitness, this momentum-based workout will improve your cardio conditioning, power and stability. During this 45-minute class, a dynamic warm-up with kettlebell moves will be taught first, then basic kettlebell moves will be taught, followed by a circuit-style kettlebell workout for the remaining time. Recommendation: this class is appropriate for individuals who have a strong foundation in basic lifts, such as the squat and deadlift. Please take notice of this recommendation as this class is not appropriate for all fitness levels.

Lifting 101
Begin to master the technique of various weight room exercises. The trainer will take you through how to design a weight lifting program, including information on weight, repetitions, sets, and rest. The program will also teach you how to balance strength and rest days to optimize results. This class is great for beginner to intermediate lifters.

Paddleboard Yoga

Come join Chris for a Beginner yoga class on a Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP)!

The class will start with a short SUP lesson and then Chris will lead you through a fun, active, beginner yoga flow practice on the water. All experience levels are welcome. Please arrive at the pool 15 minutes prior to start time. Wear comfortable yoga or athletic clothing in layers and/or a bathing suit.

 

Powerlifting and Strength Gains

Enhance your lifting regimen by taking this safe and effective strength training class targeting three essential lifts: squat, deadlift, and bench press. Progress will be tracked to maximize strength gains.

Participant Fitness Level: Level 2

TRX Blast

This 45-minute class is meant to guide you through exercises solely on the TRX suspension trainers. Major muscle groups will be worked to exhaustion safely and effectively.

TRX Fridays

Start your weekend on a fit note with our once-a-week TRX Fridays class! This 45-minute class is meant to guide you through exercises solely on the TRX suspension trainers. Major muscle groups will be worked to exhaustion safely and effectively. This small group class is available for sign-up on a week-to-week basis, so you can sign-up for one Friday and then skip the next Friday if needed! Sign-ups will be taken in Member Services in advance, or until spots are filled. Class size is limited to eight participants. The cost is $5 per class!

Ultimate Strength And Conditioning
Are you looking to revitalize your workout routine and become more fit and toned? Ultimate Strength and Conditioning is a small group personal training program geared toward the young professional (late 20s – late 30s) who is looking for a fast-paced, intense workout with results! The class will focus on total body strength and conditioning.

Participant Fitness Level: Level 2 and Level 3

Location: Flynn Recreation Complex – small group training area

 

Women and Weights

Are you a female interested in learning proper lifting and technique with other females? This class will incorporate different strength training modalities, like basic strength training and circuit training throughout the program.
