CONGRATULATIONS TO THE INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANTS OF 2008-2009

Following a highly competitive and rigorous application/interview process, the IA Steering Committee has selected the incoming IA’s for the 2008-2009 academic year. The IA Program has been carried out for decades, and is a program that is most rewarding for all involved. The OISS and the IA Steering Committee extends a warm welcome and congratulations to the new International Assistants! We look forward to having you in our program, and to the many gifts you’ll bring to the relationships you build with BC international students.

2008 WORLD FIESTA DAY

On Wednesday, April 23 the OISS, along with many other co-sponsoring organizations and offices, hosted the annual World Fiesta Day. This event is known at the campus-wide international and intercultural event of BC and showcases over 30 offices, departments and student groups that reflect this aspect of the BC community and identity. OISS HOSTS CAREER PANEL: EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOP FINALE

The OISS carries out an Employment Workshop Series, providing information on immigration regulations related to work, tips on interviewing and job-searching, and finally, rounds off the series with the annual International Student Career Panel. Congratulations: Fulbright Recipient Andrea Reichert
International Assistant and Global Proficiency graduate was awarded a Fulbright. For ten months she will be assisting in a classroom teaching English to high school students in Indonesia.

International Students Graduation Reception
The Office of International Students and Scholars invites all to the Commencement Reception on Monday, May 19th 1:30-3:00pm in the Heights Room located in Corocoran Commons. We wish to congratulate all of our graduating students and wish them well in their future endeavors.

REMINDERS

Walk-in Hours Begins Tuesday, April 22th. During the designated time slots, you will be able to get your immigration form signed immediately if you have all the required documents and forms completed. We hope that these hours will facilitate travel procedures for our international students and get answers to important questions.

Moving? Please remember that all international students and scholars are required to report any change of address within 10 days of the change. Don't forget to change your address!
Register for classes for Summer & Fall Semester. Be sure you are enrolled for full time status. Read more about maintaining status. For assistance in registration, contact Student Services.
Optional Practical Training: The Department of Homeland Security published a rule which revised the regulations on F-1 practical training. If you are graduating this semester, please make sure to read the changes and apply for OPT by the deadline.

The Graduate International Student Association (GISA)Are you interested in serving on the GISA Executive Board next year? If so, please contact Joy Galarneau (617 552-1851) for more information.

Graduate Student Discussion will be coming to an end as we conclude our academic year. This regular event has been enjoyable, educational, and rewarding for all and we look forward to those who will come out again next year. Topics have ranged from religious pluralism, politics, dating, culture, and identity. It is a forum for learning, growing, and connecting with fellow international graduate students. Thank you for all of those who made this experience so special!

International Student Club: Currently we are seeking interest for creating the ISC. The purpose of the club will be to hold social events, educate about our countries, and work with OISS to make the international community at BC even stronger. If you would be interested in seeing this happen at BC, please reply to Patricia Lopez with any thoughts, suggestions and ideas.
