BC hosts Russian Fulbright Scholar; Director Nussbaum reflects on visit

During the month of March, Boston College hosted a Fulbright Scholar from Russia, Olga Khatchaturyan. Olga is currently the head of the International Department at Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University. Krasnoyarsk is the third largest city in Siberia and is located in the middle of the country. Olga has two undergraduate degrees, one in management and the other in linguistics. She has a PhD (kandidatskaya) degree in the History of China and is fluent in Chinese.  ...Continue

OISS Staff Member Dana Riechman attends Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C.

Advocacy Day is an annual assembly in Washington, D.C. of individuals interested in supporting immigration reform and advocating for this country’s international students, as well as encouraging more Americans to study abroad.  Sponsored by NAFSA, our field’s professional organization for international educators, this year’s Advocacy Day was held on Wednesday, March 13th.  I had the chance to attend and was fortunate enough to apply for and receive a travel grant from NAFSA....Continue

International Students Learn how to Dye Easter Eggs

The Monday before Easter, the OISS organized an annual event to dye Easter eggs. On March 25th in Wash Hall, international students were introduced to this American tradition and were accompanied by their International Assistants (IAs).  Everyone also enjoyed snacking on traditional Easter candy, including jelly beans and chocolate eggs.....Continue 

Diversity Celebrated At Global Night

 

On Saturday April 13, 2013 the annual Global Night celebrated diversity around the world.  The event was hosted by the Graduate Education Association (GEA) Service and Diversity committee and GISA (Graduate International Student Association), Students from diverse background came together and talked about their culture and learned about others’ cultures.... Continue

-Moving? Please remember that all international students and scholars are required to report any change of address within 10 days of the change. Don't forget to change your address after logging into the Agora Portal. This helpful PDF can assist you in changing your address.

-Register for classes for Fall Semester. Be sure you are enrolled for full time status. Read more about maintaining status. For assistance in registration, contact Student Services.

-Optional Practical Training: If you are graduating this semester, please make sure to apply for OPT by the deadline. The latest you can apply is 60 days after you complete your studies—HOWEVER, keep in mind OPT takes 2-3 months to get approved by the government, so please plan accordingly!

Message from the International Club of Boston College (ICBC)

This semester, the International Club of BC hosted a number of successful events, continuing some of our older traditions and giving way to new ones!
We hosted our third annual World Fiesta, which brought together a diverse array of BC's culture clubs for a day of music, food, and cultural trivia in a sunny celebration of the diverse cultures and nations represented at BC.  We also began what we hope will be a promising ICBC tradition, our Cultural Spotlight series, with the first two events of the series focusing on Italy and China.  Look out for more Cultural Spotlight nights next semester!
Additionally, we hosted a gelato social, and we have begun plans for a Study Abroad Fair in collaboration with OIP that we will put on at the beginning of the fall semester.  Kaleidoscope, our annual...Continue
