The Appalachia Leadership Council
the appalachia volunteers program

Who is Appalachia Council?
Appalachia Council is a group of 10 undergraduate students. They coordinate all aspects of the program including: fundraising, publicity, days of service, programming the weekly meetings, site selection and transportation. The Council meets weekly to coordinate their efforts and to reflect on the mission of the program.
Who are Trip Leaders?
Trip Leaders are Appalachia Volunteers who have been a part of the program and wish to serve more intensely. They are chosen from a talented pool of returning volunteers who have submitted an application, interviewed and supplied references. After being chosen they meet weekly and attend retreats for formation in all aspects of leadership. They are assigned a co-leader and a site, coordinate details with the local community, and lead their group of 14-21 volunteers over spring break. They are responsible for the day-to-day details for the trips and for leading reflections each evening to deepen the experiencr of the volunteers. In the spirit of St. Ignatius, they are true examples of women and men for others.
We are graciously supported by the staff in BC's Office of Campus Ministry and by many faculty and staff around campus who believe in our mission.
