On March 31, 2014, BC ITS hosted an event participating in the World Back-Up Day 2014.  Students participated in a "Spin to Win" contest, answering trivia questions, and learning about the importance of backing up one's data as well as resources available for BC students to back up their data.

We gave away 20 flash drives for winners of the "Spin to Win" contests, and raffled off an 1.0 TB external hard drive.  Congratulations to all of the winners, especially the raffle winner, Marina Petrilli.

We also gathered some information about BC students' current data back-up habits.  According to our poll, out of the students surveyed:

  • 68% of BC students back up their data in some form.

  • Of the students that do back up their data, the greatest number use external hard drives and flash drives.

  • Only 38% of them make sure to back up their data on a regular basis.

Every week, 140,000 hard drives crash in the U.S. and those that have not backed up their data lose important files stored on their computer.  Even though World Back-up Day is over, remember to back up data on your computers, tablets, phones and other mobile devices on a regular basis.
