Traveling this summer? Beware of new scam.
The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3),a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), recently reported that travelers' laptops are being infected with malicious software while using hotel Internet connections.
A pop-up box displays, asking users to update commonly used software. Clicking the update actually installs the malware.
Always be careful when clicking links, especially pop-ups. When installing updates, do so directly from the software providers' web sites, not a pop-up, especially when traveling.
