Cyber Security Tip: Cloud Computing
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Throughout the month, BC ITS will be sharing tips and information on keeping your data, files, devices, and personal information safer from cyber attacks.
Cloud computing is the latest rage, and the term may mean different things to different people, which means you should be very careful if you choose to store files and data “in the cloud.”
The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), part of the Department of Homeland Security, suggests asking some key questions of cloud providers if you are currently using or planning to use cloud computing.
- What encryption methods do the providers have in place?
- What methods of protection do they have in place for the actual hardware that your data will be stored on?
- Will they have backups of my data? Do they have firewalls set up?
