BC Students On-the-Move with TransLoc
Where is it? This is the question that has plagued millions of people across the world. When it comes to transportation systems, whether it’s the subway or the buses, travelers are aching to know how long they will be kept waiting before they can continue their journey. Some may be going to work, others to school, and there are those that simply want to return home.
For students at Boston College, this question is refined to the bus system that ferries students to and from their off-campus lodgings. Whether it is Newton Campus for freshmen or off-campus housing for the upperclassmen, buses are constantly running in an effort to make their commute easier.
As convenient as this is, some students grow impatient as they as they wonder where their bus is.
Luckily, there’s an app for that.
TransLoc tracks the location of the buses in real-time, providing riders with up-to-date information about bus location, direction, and how many more stops it has before it reaches the desired location. By using this application, riders can view a map that will show icons moving in sync with each individual bus’s movements.
“I use it all the time. It helps me plan which bus stop to go to at what time, especially later on when it goes to all the stops,” says Ryan Hickson, a freshman in the Connell School of Nursing and a proud resident of Newton Campus.
By visiting the TransLoc website, bc.transloc.com, or downloading the mobile application, students can plan their trip to and from campus with minimal time spent waiting the bus stop. This proves especially helpful this time of year, as the weather grows colder and waiting at the bus stops becomes even less desirable.
“As a previous freshmen on Newton and now living off-campus, I wouldn't be able to survive without it,” explains Tom Dodge, an off-campus junior in the College of Arts & Sciences.
So when it comes to taking the bus, go ahead and TransLoc and drop it.
