The Information Technology Consultants (ITC) team at Boston College is comprised of IT professionals who design, implement, and manage a wide range of client management solutions in support of the broader technology initiatives of ITS; providing a secure, stable, and productive computing experience for faculty, staff, and students.
The ITCs manage and support the following computer configuration and lifecycle management services:
Client Backup Solution
To ensure business continuity, ITS contracts with Autonomy Connected Backup to provide an automated, centralized backup service for faculty and staff’s individual computers.
Anti-virus Administration
As the foundation of McAfee Security Management Platform, ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) provides centralized policy management and enforcement of security/Anti-virus products for Windows. ITS has another solution for Macintosh systems.
Client Desktop Management
The Symantec Management Platform software provides hardware and software inventory that is leveraged by the computer lifecycling deployment process and reconciles with the PeopleSoft IT Asset Management solution.
Microsoft Active Directory/Mac Open Directory Operations
The ITCs provide solutions that allow Computing Support Services staff to leverage Microsoft Active Directory and Apple Open Directory by automating common administrative tasks, such as managing Security Groups, setting permissions for network resources, deploying software, streamlining lab management, and ensuring compliance.
University Core Image Development and Deployment
To stream-line the process for standardizing software/operating system delivery and security settings compliance, universal computer images are created maintained and deployed through a centralized process for Windows and Macintosh systems.
FileMaker Pro
ITS is committed to helping the local FileMaker administrators on campus ensure their data remains secure and protected. The ITCs assist with acquisition and administraton of FileMaker servers as well as helping plan upgrades and migrations to newer versions of FileMaker Pro. The ITCs are available to assist department administrators when deciding if FileMaker Pro is a good solution for their needs and will recommend outside consultants (http://www.supportgroup.com) for development work and web publishing when needed.
