Creating Internal Links Using Freelinking

You can easily create internal links to your content by using a feature in BCshare called Freelinking. Freelinking allows you to create a link to existing content, or to create new content and a link to it at the same time.

This can be done within any text box in BCshare, available both in your Personal and Group context. In your Personal context, you can create links to your Pages and Blogs. In your Group context, you can create links to your Group Blogs, Wikis, and Forums.

Let's look first at how Freelinking works with your personal Pages and Blogs. Create some text you want to use as the link title, highlight it, and click on the "Freelinking" icon next to the "Font Size" box.

PLEASE NOTE: Freelinking cannot be used to make links to external URLs.

Note that the text you've entered for the link is in the "Displayed Link Text" box. You're now ready to create a link to one of the Blogs or Pages you've already created.

Click on the Blog or Page tab. All your created content will be shown under those tabs. You can also do a Search for your content by Title. Here's an example using the Page tab: Simply choose a Page, then click the "Insert" button to create a link to that Page.

After you click on the "Save" button, you now have a link to the Blog or Page you had chosen.

Creating a New Page and Link Using Freelinking

You can also create a new Blog or Page and a link to it at the same time. Place your cursor in the text box where you want the link to appear, and open the "Freelinking" dialog box. Note there is no text in either of the Title text boxes.

Fill them in and click "Insert."

Click the "Save" button to save your changes. Now click on the new link you just created. This will bring up a new Blog or Page for you to complete. Complete it and save. Now you have a new link that links to a new page.

PLEASE NOTE: The type of content you create in this way depends on where you are in BCshare when you create it. If you are editing a Page, it will create a new Page. If you are editing your Personal Blog, it will create a new Blog.

This same functionality is available when you are editing your Group content. You can create links to your Group Blogs, Wikis, and Forums using the methods described above.

Creating Links to Uploaded Content

You can also create links to content you've uploaded to your Personal files folder. To do this, create some text in the text box you want to use as a link, highlight it, then click on the icon in the toolbar that looks like a chain.

Creating External Links in BCshare

The only way to create links to external web pages is to use the same method as for creating links to your Personal files: Create the text you want to use as a link, highlight it, and click on the "Link" icon. When the "Insert/edit link" dialog box comes up, type or paste the URL for the link into the first text field.

Click "Insert" and save your work, and the link will work as expected.
