For four days in August, Intersections will lead a small group of faculty and staff to Focus On the Boston College Jamaica Summer Immersion trip. Undergraduate students on this Immersion trip, led by Mike Sacco, Director of the Center for Student Formation, spend 18 days living in the small northern town of Annotto Bay to learn about the lives of--and share experiences with--rural Jamaicans. The students live and teach summer camp to the children of Annotto Bay in the small mountain villages of May River and Tinsbury. This trip encourages and challenges student participants to discuss the larger social, economic, political, and religious dynamics which affect the lives of the people they encounter throughout the program.

Focus On Jamaica Summer Immersion trip participants will accompany the BC students during part of their service in order to better understand their interaction with the community and how this impacts the education of our students. We will also visit with various Jamaican community leaders during the trip to discuss issues of social justice, the Jamaican economy, and solidarity. We will spend time discussing and reflecting on various aspects of the experience among our own group.
