Popular Culture in France

This seminar examines specific media and themes of popular culture in France. Specific media covered will include television, film, advertising, music, art and bande dessinee. Within the study of these various media, the seminar will examine significant contemporary themes including cultural identity, youth culture, gender, race, ethnicity, and Americanism/anti-Americanism. Readings, lectures, and discussions will be augmented through side trips to films, concerts, museums, and media centers.
