Role in Office
As Assistant Director for International Exchange Students, Esther Messing is primary liaison and advisor responsible for over 250 students annually who come from Boston College partner universities around the world. She is also International Study Advisor for programs in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Ms. Messing holds a BS degree from City College of New York and received her MS degree from The City University of New York.
Administrative & Academic Experience
Messing began as a teacher in New York City public schools, and was a Master Teacher responsible for training other teaching professionals. After moving to Massachusetts, she taught reading in the Newton public schools. She later worked on NATO projects as a computer programmer/analyst for a systems engineering firm. Before joining the BC community, Ms. Messing was a consultant at Work/Family Directions (WFD) where she headed a team providing counseling services across a broad range of life cycle issues to employees of major national and international companies. She is a member of BC’s Critical Incident group, and is also a Massachusetts Notary Public. Esther has lived abroad and travels extensively.
Areas of Interest
Her professional interests include internationalizing the campus; international education; program development; and personal development of college-age students. Messing has also mentored international graduate students from the Heller School at Brandeis University.
