Role in Office
Janet Kalunian serves as Associate Director for Academic Operations. In that role, she processes transcripts for returned students; sets policy regarding overseas course loads, grading scales, and credit allocation; registers and posts charges for students going abroad; compiles office publications; serves as database administrator; and creates online program evaluations. She has traveled to several BC program sites in Europe and has also presented at various conferences in the U.S.
Janet holds a B.A. in Psychology from Connecticut College and an M.S. in Human Development & Family Studies (College Student Personnel) from the University of Rhode Island. She studied abroad in Oxford, England as an undergraduate student.
Janet has served in various administrative roles within higher education for over fifteen years. Before arriving at OIP, she worked at Brown University where she coordinated a summer workshop for international students, scholars, and UN personnel; administered a dissertation awards program; and secured housing for international exchange students and faculty. Prior to Brown, she worked at the University of Rhode Island’s study abroad and financial aid offices.
Research, Publications, and Other Areas of Interest
Janet’s areas of interest include evaluation and research pertaining to study abroad outcomes, particularly regarding international attitude changes. Her graduate research project entitled “Correlations Between Global-Mindedness and Study Abroad” was published in AIEA’s International Education Forum in 1997. Other areas of interest include the application of technology within the study abroad field, women’s experiences abroad, and research within the broader realms of human development and psychology.
