Academic Technology Innovation Grants (ATIG)

The Academic Technology Advisory Board (ATAB), on behalf of the Office of the Provost, entertains proposals for Academic Technology Innovation Grants (ATIG). ATIGs aim to encourage the innovative use of technology in teaching and research.

The ATAB issues calls for proposals at various intervals. Please see application link. Only full-time faculty can apply as principal investigator for an ATIG; applications for an academic unit should come from the respective Chair or Dean. All proposals must be approved and forwarded to ATAB by the respective department chairs and deans.

The ATAB only funds projects that will bring new instructional and research technologies to Boston College or will bring innovative approaches to teaching and research through technology. ATAB particularly welcomes projects that are self-sustaining or which will impact a large number of Boston College faculty and/or students. ATAB also encourages faculty to combine ATIG grants with other grant opportunities on campus, including Research Expense Grants and the Teaching and Mentoring Grants. There is neither a minimum ATIG amount nor a set number of grants awarded.

Additional information and criteria regarding the ATIGs:

  • Projects will be funded one time only, but funds can be spread out over 1-2 years
  • All applicants and approvers should take into account the fact that ATIG only provides start-up funding. Any successful project which continues beyond the grant period will require localized funding support
  • Grant funds may be used in support of hardware, software and consulting services (including programming and web design)
  • Grant funds may not be used for faculty release time or for other BC personnel expenses, including graduate assistantships
  • Grant recipients must agree to provide status reports as requested
