Printing to the CTRC or O'Neill Library using Mac OS X
Mountain Lion 10.8, Lion 10.7, Snow Leopard 10.6, Leopard 10.5 and Tiger 10.4
Important: Students can print 500 pages per semester for free. If you print over 500 pages, you will be charged 3 cents per page to your Eagle Bucks account. Part 1: Download and install Pharos software (Tiger 10.4 and Leopard 10.5 ONLY)
- Log in to your computer as an Administrator.
- Go to the HP print driver download page.
- Scroll down the page to the Driver heading and click Download next to the 3rd driver listed in the table (see Figure 1).

- Save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click the dmg file that was just downloaded:

- Double-click hplj P4010_P4510.mpkg to start the installation (see Figure 2).

- When prompted to continue, click Continue.
- Continue to follow the installation instructions, accepting all the default settings to install the print driver.
Important: Make sure the print driver is completely installed before continuing with the next step.
Part 2: Download and install Pharos Pop-Up client (All Mac OSX computers)
- Download Pharos Print Management Pop-Up Client 8.0 now (File size: 252 KB).
- When prompted, enter your BC username and password.
- If prompted, save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click the Popup.dmg icon on your desktop to begin installation, and then double-click Popup.pkg.
- Click Continue (see Figure 3).

- Do the following (see Figure 5):
- Click Macintosh HD (e.g., your hard drive name).
- Click Continue.

- Click Install (see Figure 6).

- When prompted, enter the name and password you use to sign in to your computer, and then click OK.
- The Pharos Popup Client installation is complete. Click Close (see Figure 7).

- You can now delete the Popup 8.0 and Popup.dmg files from your desktop.
- Mountain Lion 10.8 computers only:
- Under “Systems Preferences” select Accounts
- Then Select “Login items” then click “+”
- Then navigate to the following location: “HardDrive/Library/Application Support/Pharos” Select “Popup” and click add.
- Note: This will start the Pharos Printing Service each time you restart the computer.
Continue with Part 3: Add CTRC printer using Leopard 10.5 or above | using Tiger 10.4
Part 3: Add CTRC printer using Mountain Lion 10.8, Lion 10.7, Snow Leopard 10.6 or Leopard 10.5
To add the CTRC printer using Mountain Lion 10.8, Lion 10.7, Snow Leopard 10.6 or Leopard 10.5:
- From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
- Double-click the Print & Fax or Print & Scan icon (see Figure 8).

- Click the + [plus button] (see Figure 9).

- Hold down <Ctrl> and click anywhere on the Toolbar (see Figure 10).

- Select Customize Toolbar (see Figure 11).

- Drag and drop the Advanced icon onto the Toolbar (see Figure 12).

- Once the Advanced icon is added to the Toolbar, click Done (see Figure 13).

- On the Advanced tab, do the following (see Figure 14):
- From the Type drop-down list, select Pharos Print Server.
- In the URL box, type: popup://pharos-ps1.bc.edu:515/CTRCPrinters
- In the Name box, type: CTRC Printers
- From the Print Using drop-down list, select Select a driver to use if using Snow Leopard 10.6 or Leopard 10.5 or Select Printer Software if using Lion 10.7 , then select HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107.
- Click Add.

- If prompted with Installable Options, click Continue.
- The Printer List now has CTRC Printers in it (see Figure 15).

- To print documents using a printer shortcut on your desktop, do the following:
- To create a desktop shortcut to this printer: From the Printer List, drag the printer to your desktop.
- To print to that printer: Drag documents to the printer shortcut on your desktop.
- When printing to the CTRC, be sure to enter your BC username when prompted (see Figure 16).

Go to any printer in the CTRC and swipe your BC ID at the print release station. Your job will print at the first available printer.
Notes:
- The default setting in the CTRC and Libraries is now set to double-sided, so if you want to print single-sided, you will need to change the default setting. Learn more about double-sided printing with Mac OS X.
- Your print jobs remain in the queue for 48 hours, making it easier to print to the CTRC from anywhere.
Part 3: Add CTRC printer using Tiger 10.4
To add the CTRC printer using Tiger 10.4:
- Open the Printer Setup Utility
, which is located on your Macintosh Hard Drive/Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility (see Figure 17).

- On the Printer List, click Add (see Figure 18).

- Press the <Option> key and click More Printers (see Figure 19).

- Do the following (see Figure 20):
- From the drop-down list, select Advanced.
- From the Device drop-down list, select Pharos Print Server.
- In the Device Name box, type: CTRCPrinters
- In the Device URL box, type: popup://pharos-ps1.bc.edu:515/CTRCPrinters
- From the Printer Model drop-down list, select HP.
- Select HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107.
- Click Add.

- Make sure that you have already installed the Pharos software. If not, refer to Part 1.
- From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
- Double-click the Print & Fax icon (See Figure 8).
- Click the + [plus button] (See Figure 9).
- Click the Advanced icon on the top menu.
- From the Type drop-down menu, select Pharos Print Server.
- In the URL box, enter popup://pharos-ps2.bc.edu/ONeillLibrary
- From the Print Using drop-down menu, select Select Printer Software.
- Select HP LaserJet 9040 from the choice menu,click OK.
- Click Add.
The printer list now has LibraryPrinter in it.
