Adding a Printer from the BC Network

To add a printer from the BC network using Mac OS X:
- Log in to your computer as an Administrator.
- From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
- Double-click the Print & Fax icon.
- Click the plus (+) sign.
- Tiger 10.4:
- If you see your printer in the list, select it. You may need to wait a short while before your printer appears.
Once you select your printer from the list, click Add. - If you don't see your printer, click More Printers.
- To add a printer using IP (Internet Protocol), go to the next step (Step 6).
- To add a printer that is directly connected to your computer via a USB port, go to Step 8.
- If you see your printer in the list, select it. You may need to wait a short while before your printer appears.
- Lion 10.7, Snow Leopard 10.6, Leopard 10.5 & Tiger 10.4: To add a printer using IP (Internet Protocol) (see Figure 1):
- Lion 10.7, Snow Leopard 10.6 and Leopard 10.5: Click IP:

- Tiger 10.4: Click IP Printer:

- From the Protocol drop-down list, select Line Printer Daemon - LPD.
- In the Address box, enter the printer name followed by ".bc.edu" (see Figure 1). A label indicating the printer name should be located on the front of the printer. It should follow a standard naming convention for your department. If this label is not on the printer, please contact your Technology Consultant (TC) [bc.edu/tc] for this information.
- In the Location box, enter the location of the printer.
- From the Print Using drop-down list, select a printer model.
- Select a model name from the models listed.
- Click Add.
- Select your printer's options from the list, then click Continue.

- Panther 10.3 & Jaguar 10.2: To add a printer using IP (Internet Protocol) (see Figure 2):
- Select IP Printing from the drop-down list.
- In the Printer's Address box, enter the printer name followed by ".bc.edu" (see Figure 2). A label indicating the printer name should be located on the front of the printer. - Select a Printer Model from the drop-down list.
- Select a Model Name from the models listed.
- Click Add.

- To add a printer that is directly connected to your computer via a USB port (see Figure 3):
- Select USB from the drop-down list.
- Select a printer name from the Product list.
- Select a Printer Model from the drop-down list.
- Select a Model Name from the models listed.
- Click Add.

- Once you finish setting up all your printers, the Printer List window appears with all the names of the printers you added. Your default printer is listed in bold text (see Figure 4):

- To change your default printer, click the printer you want as your default printer and click Make Default or select the printer you want from your Default printer drop-down list.
